Ruark Audio

Ruark designs premium compact audio products spanning tabletop radios, streaming music systems, active desktop speakers, radiograms and matching components. Across the range, the focus is on class-leading sound, tactile usability and enduring industrial design, highlighted by the brand’s signature RotoDial control system. Ruark applies both modern and heritage-informed engineering, including computer-aided development (drive units, cabinets and crossover/network topology) alongside final tuning by ear, and supports contemporary connectivity such as Wi-Fi streaming and Bluetooth (including aptX on select models). Ruark is a family-owned British company based on the South East Coast of England, founded in 1985 by Alan O’Rourke and his father Brian, with roots in the UK audio industry of the 1960s and 1970s. The business began with loudspeakers for audio enthusiasts, expanded into compact radios and music systems from 2006, and unified its product naming under the Ruark brand from 2012 (after initially using “Vita Audio” for early radio products). Over the decades, Ruark has built a strong critical reputation, earning multiple industry awards and acclaim, including the Sunday Telegraph describing the original R1 as “the Aston Martin of DAB radios,” reflecting the company ethos of craftsmanship, design and performance.
