The Meze 99 Classics are audiophile headphones with a closed-back, supra-aural design, built around 40 mm drivers and walnut wood cups that are CNC-machined and hand-finished. The wooden acoustic chamber contributes to a natural presentation, and the wood grain is different on every single pair. With an impedance of 32 Ω and a sensitivity of 103 dB (1 kHz, 1 mW), even a phone can drive them properly, with no separate headphone amplifier required.
The construction is deliberately glue-free — every part is joined with screws. The load-bearing components are made of zinc alloy with an electroplated surface finish and a headband of spring-tempered stamped manganese steel, which distributes clamping force evenly across different head sizes. The earpads use medium-density memory foam covered in soft PU leather, improving passive isolation and seating stability. The manufacturer guarantees repairability and replacement of individual parts throughout the life of the headphones.
The signal path is handled by a detachable Kevlar-reinforced OFC cable with a gold-plated 3.5 mm connector; the accessories include a 6.3 mm jack adapter as well as an airplane adapter. The 15 Hz – 25 kHz frequency range combined with the closed wooden chamber supports articulate bass without smearing and an even midrange, so instrument localisation stays stable even in denser arrangements. Nominal input power is 30 mW with a maximum of 50 mW; weight is 260 g without the cable.
