Description

The Ypsilon MC Series consists of passive moving-coil step-up transformers (SUT) engineered to amplify low-level MC cartridge signals up to moving-magnet (MM) voltage levels with absolute transparency and zero added noise. Constructed around large, proprietary amorphous single C-core double-coil transformers using specialized low-capacitance winding techniques, each model is double-shielded with mu-metal and potted inside a 10 mm thick soft-iron, nickel-coated enclosure for maximum immunity against external stray magnetic fields. Designed alongside the VPS100 phono stage, the series offers four gain and impedance matching tiers when terminated into a standard 47k ohm MM input: MC5 (14 dB gain, 2k ohm load, for 0.8–1.2 mV cartridges), MC10 (20 dB gain, 500 ohm load, for 0.4–0.6 mV cartridges), MC16 (24 dB gain, 200 ohm load, for 0.3–0.4 mV cartridges), and MC20 (26 dB gain, 140 ohm load, for 0.2–0.3 mV cartridges). Parallel RCA inputs allow custom resistive loading.

Ypsilon Electronics

Ypsilon Electronics is a Greek company that was founded in 1995 by Demetris Baklavas and Fanis Lagadinos, two passionate sound engineers with experience in electronic engineering and a career in setting up audio systems for live concerts. Working with live music, live concerts and especially a technical background in electronics led the two gentlemen to the idea of developing audio components that can reproduce music in a way faithful to the original recording.
