CrystalConnect van Gogh is a digital interconnect with a characteristic impedance of 110 Ohm fitted with XLR connectors, designed for balanced transmission of a digital audio signal between source and converter. A precisely defined impedance is crucial in digital transmission – it matches the AES/EBU interface standard and allows the signal to travel without impedance discontinuities along the entire length of the run.
The balanced connection via XLR connectors works with a pair of conductors carrying the signal in antiphase, so that interference induced from the surroundings is cancelled out at the receiving end. The cable's construction is tailored to a high-frequency digital signal rather than analogue transmission – what matters here is preserving the shape of the pulses and maintaining consistent transmission along the whole path.
Maintaining the 110 Ohm impedance reduces signal reflections at the source and receiver interface, which manifest themselves in a digital chain as timing uncertainty of the clock signal – jitter. A more stable data flow contributes to a quieter background to the recording and more precise localisation of instruments within the stereo image.

The Dutch company Crystal Cable has been manufacturing top-quality cables since 2004. It is led by Gabi van der Kleij-Rijnveld, and the brand was established as a sister company to the renowned manufacturer Siltech.
