LUMIN U2X — flagship network transport with isolated USB output and 10M clock I/O

The LUMIN U2X is an all-new flagship streaming transport designed purely for digital output — with no internal DAC, focusing on the cleanest possible data transfer to an external converter. In build and standing it sits alongside the X1 model: it uses a chassis machined from a single block of aluminium (solid billet CNC) and an external dual-toroidal linear power supply. It supports native playback of DSD512 and PCM up to 768 kHz, and introduces a first for the entire brand — a newly developed isolated USB digital output architecture.

Both the main unit and the power supply are machined by the same method from solid aluminium billet — thick, uninterrupted walls increase structural rigidity, damp vibration and shield sensitive circuitry. The external supply combines two toroidal transformers with separate digital and analogue rails and a low-noise linear regulator, connecting to the main unit via a 9-pin connector. Moving the power supply outside the main chassis reduces transformer radiation into the signal-processing circuits.

The U2X is the first LUMIN model with a 10M clock input and two 10M clock outputs (50 Ω, BNC), allowing several digital devices to be synchronised in master clock mode. A shared, stable time reference helps lower jitter across the entire chain. Besides the isolated USB, the digital output section offers an optical output, RCA and BNC coaxial and AES/EBU (PCM 44.1–192 kHz, DSD 2.8 MHz via DoP). Of the three USB ports, one is dedicated exclusively to audio output, while the remaining two are free for storage and accessories.

The network section features a dual interface with a built-in network switch and an optical input via standard SFP (1000Base-T), which galvanically isolates the player from the digital noise of the home network. The U2X is also the first LUMIN flagship to use the latest and fastest processor platform — higher computing power and storage capacity expand resampling options (up/downsampling up to DSD256, PCM 384 kHz) and leave headroom for future firmware development. Also on board are Leedh Processing — lossless digital volume control and support for Roon Ready, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, AirPlay and UPnP/OpenHome.
