LUMIN U2 Mini – network transport with a new processor platform for an external DAC
The LUMIN U2 Mini is a network player conceived as a transport without its own D/A converter, designed to work alongside an external DAC. It is the brand's first model built on an entirely new processor platform, which delivers greater computing power and more headroom for future firmware updates. It plays material up to DSD512 and PCM 768 kHz / 16–32 bit, including MQA decoding.
The faster processor allows flexible upsampling and downsampling across the full range from 44.1 kHz to PCM 384 kHz and DSD256, so the signal can be tailored to the band in which a given converter performs best. Timing accuracy is handled by the quad native clock system carried over from the U1 Mini, which reduces jitter at all supported sampling rates.
The digital output section offers five output types – USB, optical, coaxial RCA, coaxial BNC and AES/EBU. USB handles native DSD512 and PCM 44.1–768 kHz, while the remaining interfaces support PCM up to 192 kHz and DSD64 via DoP. Power comes from an internal shielded supply with automatic 100–240 V AC range, housed in a new all-aluminium compact chassis with a surface finish taken from the flagship P1 model, which is more resistant to fingerprints.
On the software side the unit is Roon Ready and supports UPnP AV with the OpenHome extension, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, AirPlay, gapless playback and playlists stored on the device. It includes Leedh Processing – lossless digital volume control, which allows connection straight into a power amplifier with no loss of resolution. Control is via the LUMIN app for iOS, Android, Apple Silicon Mac or Chromebook, or through the LUMIN infrared control package.
