The TRUE X SURROUND 50A is a complete home surround system built around a soundbar with integrated Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding, a wireless subwoofer and a pair of Bluetooth True X surround speakers that can be placed freely around the room. Yamaha True X technology ties these components into a three-dimensional soundstage without complicated installation or runs of speaker cable.
The surround speakers work entirely wirelessly — they require no permanent mains connection and no cabling to the soundbar. Once paired with the system they take over the rear channels, and outside of home cinema duty they can be used as standalone portable Bluetooth speakers. The external wireless subwoofer covers the low end separately from the soundbar, freeing the midrange from being masked by bass.
The soundbar's tuning emphasises dialogue intelligibility and detail resolution; the Clear Voice function highlights the speech band, while Bass Extension widens the response at low frequencies. The result is a balanced presentation with ample dynamic headroom both for quiet late-night viewing and at higher volumes. The system adapts automatically to the room and the type of content, so no manual fine-tuning is needed.
Connection to the TV is handled by HDMI eARC, complemented by an HDMI input and an optical input, while wireless music streaming runs over Bluetooth or the network protocols Spotify Connect, AirPlay 2 and Tidal Connect. Alexa voice control, a remote handset and the Sound Bar Controller app for deeper access to settings are all included. The minimalist design allows placement beneath a TV as well as wall mounting. The set is sold as a complete package.

Yamaha is one of the few hi-fi manufacturers that also builds concert grand pianos and wind instruments. When developing an amplifier or a speaker system, therefore, it does not have to guess what a real instrument should sound like, as it has one to hand and can compare the sound to it. This forms the basis of a principle the brand has adhered to since the 1970s, known as ‘Natural Sound’: sound without embellishment and without any inherent colouration. In 1974, this principle was established by the NS-1000 loudspeakers with beryllium drivers, and ever since it has guided everything Yamaha produces for home listening, from turntables and amplifiers right through to AV receivers and wireless systems. Anyone looking for a sound that neither enhances nor embellishes a recording in any way will find exactly that with Yamaha.
