The RX-V4A is a 5.2-channel AV receiver designed for medium-sized home cinemas, combining CINEMA DSP 3D surround processing with 17 DSP programmes and a modern video section with 4 HDMI inputs / 1 output. Rated power reaches 80 W per channel (20 Hz – 20 kHz, 6 ohms, 0.06 % THD), and 115 W with one channel driven (1 kHz, 6 ohms). It decodes Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD Master Audio, and supports playback of FLAC and WAV files up to 192 kHz/24-bit, as well as DSD up to 11.2 MHz.
The power section uses a High Slew Rate Amplifier, whose circuit design responds to rapid changes in input signal level without losing transfer stability — something especially noticeable with high-resolution signals. Conversion is handled by a Burr-Brown PCM5101A D/A converter supporting 384 kHz/32-bit, the Pure Direct mode shortens the signal path by bypassing unnecessary processing, and Compressed Music Enhancer algorithmically restores frequency bands lost to compression in formats such as MP3.
Room adaptation is handled by YPAO (Yamaha Parametric room Acoustic Optimizer) calibration, which uses the supplied microphone to measure the room's acoustics and adjusts the system's parameters to the listening position. The result is more stable localisation of sources within the soundstage and a more even frequency response at the listening spot. Also available are Adaptive DRC, dialogue level adjustment, Virtual Presence Speaker, SILENT CINEMA / Virtual CINEMA DSP, audio delay of 0–500 ms and bi-amp speaker connection.
The video section passes through 8K/60 Hz and 4K/120 Hz at 24 Gb/s bandwidth, supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision, eARC and the gaming features ALLM and VRR, which reduce latency and screen tearing. Network features include 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi, LAN, Bluetooth (SBC/AAC), AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and the MusicCast multiroom platform; with MusicCast 20 or MusicCast 50 speakers you can create a wireless rear surround. Control is via the MusicCast CONTROLLER app, four SCENE buttons and a graphical OSD, while the AV Setup Guide app simplifies installation.

Yamaha is one of the few hi-fi manufacturers that also builds concert grand pianos and wind instruments. When developing an amplifier or a speaker system, therefore, it does not have to guess what a real instrument should sound like, as it has one to hand and can compare the sound to it. This forms the basis of a principle the brand has adhered to since the 1970s, known as ‘Natural Sound’: sound without embellishment and without any inherent colouration. In 1974, this principle was established by the NS-1000 loudspeakers with beryllium drivers, and ever since it has guided everything Yamaha produces for home listening, from turntables and amplifiers right through to AV receivers and wireless systems. Anyone looking for a sound that neither enhances nor embellishes a recording in any way will find exactly that with Yamaha.
