Description

Yamaha RX-A6A – 9.2-channel AVENTAGE AV receiver with 11.2-channel processing and SURROUND:AI technology

The RX-A6A is a 9.2-channel AV receiver from the AVENTAGE series, designed for home cinema with surround sound and high-resolution video. The sound field is managed by the Qualcomm QCS407 processor with 64-bit processing, which runs the SURROUND:AI function, analysing the scene in real time and distinguishing dialogue, background music, ambient noise and sound effects. The receiver supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and AURO-3D, while CINEMA DSP HD3 enables playback of up to 11.1 channels even with a 7.1 setup thanks to a virtual surround back speaker (front presence speakers required).

The power section delivers 150 W per channel (20 Hz – 20 kHz, 8 ohms, 0.06% THD, 2 channels driven) and is built on a High Slew Rate amplifier topology, which more than doubles the slew rate while maintaining stable signal transmission. Mechanical stability is ensured by Anti Resonance Technology (A.R.T.) with an H-frame and the A.R.T. Wedge foot, which suppresses both internal and external vibrations. D/A conversion is handled by a combination of ESS SABRE ES9026PRO and ES9007S (384 kHz/32-bit Hyperstream) with low noise levels and a wide dynamic range.

Room calibration is handled by YPAO-R.S.C. with 3D and multi-point measurement, angle measurement and 64-bit calculation for precise EQ, which also optimises the parameters for SURROUND:AI, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The result is stable localisation of instruments and effects, intelligible dialogue even at high levels and suppressed influence of room reflections. Playback handles FLAC up to 384 kHz/24-bit, WAV and AIFF up to 384 kHz/32-bit and DSD up to 11.2 MHz; Pure Direct mode, Compressed Music Enhancer and a phono input are also available.

The video section offers 7 HDMI inputs / 3 outputs (HDCP 2.3) with support for 8K/60 Hz, 4K/120 Hz, 40 Gbps, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, eARC, ALLM and VRR, meeting the needs of current gaming consoles. The system is rounded out by 11.2-channel pre-outs, an XLR input and bi-amping, multi-zone operation for Zone 2/3/4 and MusicCast network features – Wi-Fi 2.4/5 GHz, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect as well as wireless surround speakers MusicCast 20 or MusicCast 50. The weight of 20.3 kg reflects the robust chassis construction.

Yamaha

Yamaha is one of the few hi-fi manufacturers that also builds concert grand pianos and wind instruments. When developing an amplifier or a speaker system, therefore, it does not have to guess what a real instrument should sound like, as it has one to hand and can compare the sound to it. This forms the basis of a principle the brand has adhered to since the 1970s, known as ‘Natural Sound’: sound without embellishment and without any inherent colouration. In 1974, this principle was established by the NS-1000 loudspeakers with beryllium drivers, and ever since it has guided everything Yamaha produces for home listening, from turntables and amplifiers right through to AV receivers and wireless systems. Anyone looking for a sound that neither enhances nor embellishes a recording in any way will find exactly that with Yamaha.
