Description

Yamaha R-N600A Network Stereo Receiver with ToP-ART Construction and ESS SABRE ES9010K2M DAC

The Yamaha R-N600A is a network stereo receiver that combines a power amplifier, DAC, streaming module and DAB/DAB+ tuner in a single chassis. Its foundation is the hi-fi concept of ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology), meaning the shortest and most direct signal paths possible, combined with a rigid, low-vibration chassis. Support for MusicCast and Roon Tested certification extends the unit with multiroom operation and integration into the home network.

Mechanical stability is provided by a frame made of a special Art Base resin, which absorbs and blocks unwanted vibrations transmitted to the sensitive circuitry. The digital section is built around the 32-bit ESS SABRE ES9010K2M converter with 384 kHz support, complemented by Yamaha's own network module, asynchronous data transfer and a high-precision crystal clock generator that reduces timing deviations in the signal. Native playback of DSD 11.2 MHz and PCM up to 384 kHz is supported, including FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC-compatible containers and common lossy formats.

The power section delivers 80 W + 80 W into 8 ohms at 0.07 % THD across 20 Hz – 20 kHz, with dynamic power of 105 / 125 / 150 / 175 W into 8 / 6 / 4 / 2 ohms, which contributes to stable control of loudspeakers with fluctuating impedance. The Pure Direct mode bypasses the buffer, tone controls, loudness and balance, shortening the signal path and reducing its degradation; in this mode it achieves a signal-to-noise ratio of 100 dB and a frequency response of 10 Hz – 100 kHz (0 ±1.0 dB). The result is legible microdynamics, precise localisation of instruments and a low noise floor that reveals the spatial acoustics of the recording.

Connectivity covers CD and line 1–3 analogue inputs, a separate phono input for a turntable, two optical and two coaxial digital inputs, a USB port on the front panel for storage media, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (SBC/AAC). The optical input allows you to connect a television and reproduce its sound through the hi-fi chain, while the subwoofer output extends the bandwidth with an active bass module. Streaming is handled by services such as Amazon Music HD or Spotify, and AirPlay 2 for Apple Music, while the DAB/DAB+ tuner offers 40 presets. The weight of 9.8 kg and dimensions of 435 × 151 × 392 mm correspond to the classic hi-fi format.

Yamaha

Yamaha is one of the few hi-fi manufacturers that also builds concert grand pianos and wind instruments. When developing an amplifier or a speaker system, therefore, it does not have to guess what a real instrument should sound like, as it has one to hand and can compare the sound to it. This forms the basis of a principle the brand has adhered to since the 1970s, known as ‘Natural Sound’: sound without embellishment and without any inherent colouration. In 1974, this principle was established by the NS-1000 loudspeakers with beryllium drivers, and ever since it has guided everything Yamaha produces for home listening, from turntables and amplifiers right through to AV receivers and wireless systems. Anyone looking for a sound that neither enhances nor embellishes a recording in any way will find exactly that with Yamaha.
