Description

Ypsilon Orion Mono monaural power amplifier in a pure solid-state architecture

The Ypsilon Orion Mono is a monaural power amplifier that, for the first time in the brand's history, abandons the hybrid concept and builds on a pure solid-state design. It is intended for demanding loudspeaker systems with low sensitivity or a difficult impedance curve, where power reserve and stability are decisive. Output power reaches 650 W into 8 Ω and 1000 W into 2 Ω, providing headroom to reproduce dynamic peaks without restriction.

The design is based on a proprietary circuit topology and key components made to order specifically for this application. Power is supplied by a massive IE-core transformer, hand-wound in the Ypsilon workshops, which forms the energy foundation of the entire unit and contributes to a stable supply for the output stage even under continuous load. The mechanical foundation is a robust machined aluminium chassis, which reduces mechanical resonances while also limiting the influence of electromagnetic interference on sensitive circuits.

The combination of a high power reserve and the ability to drive dropping impedance translates into precise control over the bass driver cones, a stable bass register and preserved intelligibility even at high levels. The low noise floor, thanks to the shielded chassis and generously dimensioned power supply, supports a quiet recording background, distinct instrument localisation and the smooth tracking of dynamic transitions.

Despite the change of technological platform, the Orion Mono retains the brand's sonic philosophy oriented towards natural, uncompressed reproduction. The move to a solid-state solution brings greater power versatility and lower maintenance demands, while the emphasis on in-house development and in-house manufactured components remains unchanged.

Ypsilon Electronics

Ypsilon Electronics was established in 1995. It was founded by two sound engineers with extensive experience in the field of live music reproduction. It was not only their experience with live music and concerts that provided the necessary knowledge, but also their technical background in electronics; it was precisely this that helped shape their vision of how a high-end audio device should function and what level of reliability it should demonstrate. It was precisely their love of natural live music and their determination that compelled them to transform this passion into technology – technology that combines traditional approaches with modern, pioneering design solutions and processes. The result of these efforts is a range of unique products that convey the true essence of music to listeners… emotion!
