The Yamaha NS-P41 is a complete 5.1-channel home cinema package designed to expand your TV's sound into full-fledged surround reproduction. The set comprises two front, two surround and one centre satellite with a 7 cm full-range cone driver, complemented by an active subwoofer with a 20 cm driver and Advanced YST II technology. The system covers the 28 Hz – 25 kHz band and, with an impedance of 6 ohms (excluding the subwoofer), works without any trouble alongside common AV receivers.
The front and surround satellites use bass-reflex enclosures, while the centre channel employs a sealed (acoustic suspension) enclosure, which contributes to more accurate dialogue reproduction. All satellites have a nominal power handling of 30 W, a maximum of 100 W and a sensitivity of 83 dB (centre 84 dB / 2.83 V / 1 m). Thanks to the keyhole-shaped openings on the rear panel, they can be mounted directly on a wall or placed freely in the room.
The subwoofer combines the principles of negative impedance and constant current, so that Advanced YST II optimises the driver's effective impedance and maintains a stable response in the lowest registers even at higher sound pressure levels. Output power reaches 50 W (5 ohms, 100 Hz, 10% THD) with a dynamic power of 100 W across the 28–200 Hz band. The Twisted Flare Port, with its gently twisted flared mouth, disperses the air vortex at the edge of the port and creates a smoother airflow, thereby reducing noise that is not part of the input signal.
The satellites are tuned towards a clean, smooth character suited to longer listening sessions, while the surround channels and the subwoofer are matched to one another so that the transition between bands feels seamless. The result is intelligible dialogue reproduction, legible cinematic effects and well-controlled bass – with films, music and everyday TV broadcasts alike.
Yamaha is one of the few hi-fi manufacturers that also builds concert grand pianos and wind instruments. When developing an amplifier or a speaker system, therefore, it does not have to guess what a real instrument should sound like, as it has one to hand and can compare the sound to it. This forms the basis of a principle the brand has adhered to since the 1970s, known as ‘Natural Sound’: sound without embellishment and without any inherent colouration. In 1974, this principle was established by the NS-1000 loudspeakers with beryllium drivers, and ever since it has guided everything Yamaha produces for home listening, from turntables and amplifiers right through to AV receivers and wireless systems. Anyone looking for a sound that neither enhances nor embellishes a recording in any way will find exactly that with Yamaha.
