The NS-C444 is a centre speaker from the EF (Elliptical Form) series featuring a two-way design with a dual woofer arrangement. It combines a waveguide horn at the tweeter with 13 cm PMD (Polymer-injected Mica Diaphragm) drivers, targeting the reproduction of digital film soundtracks as well as music. The sealed acoustic suspension enclosure contributes to a well-defined bass performance without the resonance of a bass reflex port.
The bass section consists of a pair of 13 cm diaphragms made of mica-infused polymer, combining low mass with high internal damping. The upper band is handled by a 2.5 cm aluminium dome with a waveguide, with the crossover frequency set at 3 kHz. Internal connections are made with Monster Cable wiring, and the enclosure has an elliptical shape with a piano finish in the Yamaha tradition.
A sensitivity of 89 dB/2.83 V/1 m and a frequency range of 55 Hz – 35 kHz allow it to handle the wide dynamics of modern digital sources. The waveguide shapes and directs the dispersion of the high frequencies, which stabilises the soundstage and improves dialogue intelligibility off the listening axis. An impedance of 6 ohms, a nominal power handling of 100 W and a maximum power handling of 250 W define the requirements for the connected amplifier.

Yamaha is one of the few hi-fi manufacturers that also builds concert grand pianos and wind instruments. When developing an amplifier or a speaker system, therefore, it does not have to guess what a real instrument should sound like, as it has one to hand and can compare the sound to it. This forms the basis of a principle the brand has adhered to since the 1970s, known as ‘Natural Sound’: sound without embellishment and without any inherent colouration. In 1974, this principle was established by the NS-1000 loudspeakers with beryllium drivers, and ever since it has guided everything Yamaha produces for home listening, from turntables and amplifiers right through to AV receivers and wireless systems. Anyone looking for a sound that neither enhances nor embellishes a recording in any way will find exactly that with Yamaha.
