The Yamaha NS-AW592 is a pair of mid-sized outdoor loudspeakers designed for exterior installation, or for use as front or surround channels. The system uses a two-way acoustic suspension design with a sealed enclosure, which ensures a controlled bass range even in the acoustically unbounded outdoor environment. At its core is a 6.5" water-resistant cone woofer complemented by a 1" dome tweeter with a surface treatment and ferrofluid cooling.
The construction is engineered with the emphasis on resistance to the weather. The speakers use weather-resistant 5-way binding posts, which accept bare wire, banana plugs and spade connectors alike, and stand up to moisture. The front is protected by powder-coated aluminium grilles that resist corrosion. Supplied in the box are mounting brackets for installation on a wall or ceiling at various angles, as well as rubber feet for placement on a table or shelf.
A frequency range of 55 Hz – 20 kHz and a sensitivity of 88 dB/2.83 V/1 m make for a combination that delivers ample volume even from ordinary amplifiers. The 6-ohm impedance and power handling of 50 W nominal / 150 W maximum define a fairly broad operating window. Liquid cooling of the tweeter dome reduces thermal compression during longer playback at higher levels, which contributes to the stability of the treble and to detail clarity even in the open air.
Thanks to a weight of 2.4 kg each and compact dimensions (approximately 206 × 340 × 171 mm), the system can be deployed in a home cinema, on a terrace, in smaller commercial spaces and in public buildings. The mounting flexibility and durable materials make this model a practical solution wherever long-term operation outside a sheltered interior is required.
Yamaha is one of the few hi-fi manufacturers that also builds concert grand pianos and wind instruments. When developing an amplifier or a speaker system, therefore, it does not have to guess what a real instrument should sound like, as it has one to hand and can compare the sound to it. This forms the basis of a principle the brand has adhered to since the 1970s, known as ‘Natural Sound’: sound without embellishment and without any inherent colouration. In 1974, this principle was established by the NS-1000 loudspeakers with beryllium drivers, and ever since it has guided everything Yamaha produces for home listening, from turntables and amplifiers right through to AV receivers and wireless systems. Anyone looking for a sound that neither enhances nor embellishes a recording in any way will find exactly that with Yamaha.
