The NS-AW392 is a pair of outdoor speakers in a compact format, designed for permanent installation in environments exposed to the weather. It is a two-way acoustic suspension system (sealed enclosure) working with a 5-1/4" water-resistant cone woofer/midrange driver and a 3/4" dome tweeter with a treated surface and ferrofluid cooling. Applications range from sound for patios and gardens through home theatre, where they can serve as front or surround channels, to smaller commercial and public spaces.
The construction is dedicated to durability: weather-resistant 5-way binding posts allow a firm and long-term stable cable connection, while powder-coated aluminium grilles protect the drivers without being subject to corrosion. The package includes mounting brackets with adjustable aiming, so the speakers can be oriented on a wall or under a roof overhang; the supplied rubber feet also allow free placement on a shelf or worktop.
The sealed enclosure delivers controlled bass with a gradual roll-off, which in open spaces benefits midrange intelligibility and the stability of the presentation at higher volumes. The frequency range of 60 Hz – 25 kHz and sensitivity of 86 dB/2.83 V/1 m at 6 ohms impedance suit common amplifiers as well as installation systems; power handling of 40 W nominal and 120 W maximum provides headroom for dynamic peaks. Dimensions of 6-3/4" x 10-3/4" x 5-3/8" and a weight of 4 pounds each make mounting easy even on less substantial structures.
Yamaha is one of the few hi-fi manufacturers that also builds concert grand pianos and wind instruments. When developing an amplifier or a speaker system, therefore, it does not have to guess what a real instrument should sound like, as it has one to hand and can compare the sound to it. This forms the basis of a principle the brand has adhered to since the 1970s, known as ‘Natural Sound’: sound without embellishment and without any inherent colouration. In 1974, this principle was established by the NS-1000 loudspeakers with beryllium drivers, and ever since it has guided everything Yamaha produces for home listening, from turntables and amplifiers right through to AV receivers and wireless systems. Anyone looking for a sound that neither enhances nor embellishes a recording in any way will find exactly that with Yamaha.
