Description

Yamaha NS-AW294 two-way outdoor speakers with water and UV resistance

The NS-AW294 are outdoor speakers supplied as a pair, designed to bring sound to terraces, gardens, poolside areas or semi-covered spaces. In terms of design, this is a two-way bass-reflex system that combines the refined character of Yamaha home speakers with a weather-resistant IPx3-rated cabinet that withstands dripping water, humidity and ultraviolet radiation. Compact dimensions of 7-1/2" x 12-1/8" x 8-1/2" and a weight of 2 kg per unit allow installation on most types of walls and ceilings.

The midrange and low frequencies are handled by a 6-1/2" water-resistant cone woofer, while the highs are reproduced by a 1" balanced dome with surface treatment and fluid cooling, which improves heat dissipation from the voice coil under prolonged load. The system works with an impedance of 8 ohms, a sensitivity of 87 dB/2.83 V/1 m and handles a rated power of 50 W, 100 W peak, matching common AV receivers as well as multi-zone amplifiers. The frequency response is quoted in the 80 Hz – 20 kHz band.

Connection is provided by spring push terminals supporting cable up to 8 mm² (AWG 8) in cross-section, and installation by a swivelling U-bracket with an 81° tilt range in 13.5° steps. The ability to aim the driver axis precisely at the listening position contributes to midrange intelligibility and a more stable perception of the sound source in open spaces, where wall reflections are absent. Bass-reflex tuning also extends the usable bass response without the need for a large-volume cabinet.

Yamaha

Yamaha is one of the few hi-fi manufacturers that also builds concert grand pianos and wind instruments. When developing an amplifier or a speaker system, therefore, it does not have to guess what a real instrument should sound like, as it has one to hand and can compare the sound to it. This forms the basis of a principle the brand has adhered to since the 1970s, known as ‘Natural Sound’: sound without embellishment and without any inherent colouration. In 1974, this principle was established by the NS-1000 loudspeakers with beryllium drivers, and ever since it has guided everything Yamaha produces for home listening, from turntables and amplifiers right through to AV receivers and wireless systems. Anyone looking for a sound that neither enhances nor embellishes a recording in any way will find exactly that with Yamaha.
