Description

Two-way outdoor speakers with rugged construction and balanced response

The Yamaha NS-AW194 is a pair of outdoor speakers designed for installation outside as well as in rooms with higher humidity. It is a two-way, bass-reflex design combining a 4" water-resistant cone woofer with a 1" balanced dome tweeter with fluid cooling. The straightforward design and compact dimensions allow placement in a wide range of locations without demanding complicated mounting.

The enclosure is engineered with an emphasis on resistance to the weather — it withstands dripping water, humidity and UV radiation, with an IPx3 rating. Supplied with the speakers is a U-bracket with 81° of angular movement in 13.5° steps, allowing the driver axis to be aimed precisely at the listening position. Connection is handled by spring-loaded push terminals accepting conductors up to 8 mm².

A frequency range of 100 Hz – 20 kHz, sensitivity of 85 dB/2.83 V/1 m and 8 ohm impedance define their use with standard amplifiers; nominal power handling is 30 W, with a short-term maximum of 80 W. The bass-reflex tuning supports clarity in the midrange and lower band even at higher levels, while the cooled tweeter contributes to the stability of the high frequencies during long-term operation. A weight of 1.3 kg per unit simplifies mounting on a wall or under an overhang.

Yamaha

Yamaha is one of the few hi-fi manufacturers that also builds concert grand pianos and wind instruments. When developing an amplifier or a speaker system, therefore, it does not have to guess what a real instrument should sound like, as it has one to hand and can compare the sound to it. This forms the basis of a principle the brand has adhered to since the 1970s, known as ‘Natural Sound’: sound without embellishment and without any inherent colouration. In 1974, this principle was established by the NS-1000 loudspeakers with beryllium drivers, and ever since it has guided everything Yamaha produces for home listening, from turntables and amplifiers right through to AV receivers and wireless systems. Anyone looking for a sound that neither enhances nor embellishes a recording in any way will find exactly that with Yamaha.
