LUMIN N1 — ten-port audiophile network switch with optical isolation and linear power supply

The LUMIN N1 is a dedicated 10-port audiophile network switch that forms a clean and stable data foundation for network audio. The combination of 4x optical SFP ports and 6x copper RJ45 ports (1000BASE-T) allows it to serve as the central hub of an entire high-capacity home network as well as an element providing complete galvanic isolation for sensitive hi-fi components. The unit requires no configuration — it works immediately upon connection.

The construction follows on from the D3 and U2 Mini models and employs an aluminium chassis. Instead of the usual external switch-mode adapters, which are a source of noise, a linear power supply with an oversized toroidal transformer and a low-noise linear regulator is integrated inside, housed in a shielded power compartment. This solution is derived from the U2 and T3X models and minimises interference with delicate network signals. A physical switch for completely turning off the LED indication is also included.

The optical SFP ports transmit data without any electrical connection, thereby separating the audio chain from the rest of the network and from cheap consumer switches. At the same time, the copper ports provide a stable wired connection for all devices from a single point. An input for an external 10 MHz clock (BNC, 50 Ω) enables synchronisation with the clock output of the LUMIN U2X or with a third-party master clock; internally, the N1 runs on a highly stable clock. A unified, low-jitter time reference contributes to the coherence of the whole system.

The result of the reduced level of electrical noise in the network layer and precise time synchronisation is a quieter reproduction background, more legible micro-details and more stable localisation of instruments within the stereo image. The package includes an IEC power cable, 2x SFP LC modules, an optical network cable, an RJ45 Ethernet cable and accompanying documentation. Dimensions are 360 × 236.5 × 60.5 mm with a weight of 2.5 kg.
