Telos Macro Quantum – active USB bus noise eliminator for digital audio chains

The Macro Q is an active USB noise eliminator that plugs directly into the USB bus and suppresses, in real time, the high-frequency interference leaking from the computer into the digital chain. The USB interface was originally developed for connecting computer peripherals, not for transmitting a music signal, which is why it brings along high-frequency noise from the computer's switching power supplies. This affects not only the digital section of the device, but also the analogue output behind the D/A converter. The Macro Q works as a dynamic noise trap that compensates for this interference continuously, rather than by passive filtering.

At the heart of the solution are two special integrated circuits and a detection circuit that continuously monitor the state of the USB channel and capture random high-frequency noise in the transmission path. Based on this detection, the module emits a high-speed inverse signal identical in shape to the measured interference, cancelling it synchronously. The result is a stabilised transmission channel — a principle Telos compares to a stabiliser working on the USB line. As long as no new digital device is added to the system, the Macro Q maintains precise synchronisation with no further adjustment needed.

The benefit follows directly from the principle of active compensation: a lower level of high-frequency noise limits disturbances affecting the digital signal and reduces losses in transmission between the source and the receiving device. The manufacturer also points out the limits of purely cable-based solutions — buffering and asynchronous transfer do correct data errors, but physical jitter remains high, and without active noise suppression even a better conductor brings only marginal improvement. The Macro Q therefore works where cable design alone is not enough.

The module measures a compact 3 x 5 x 1 cm and weighs 0.15 kg, so it can be fitted into most systems without altering the setup. The package includes a quality USB extension cable for use in tight spaces; an adapter is supplied for the European region.
