The LUMIN L2 is a UPnP (OpenHome) music server supplied in a diskless configuration, complemented by a 4-port audiophile-grade network switch. It thus combines the role of a music file library and a network node in a single chassis. Operation requires no configuration — music added via USB or over the network is made available to the player automatically, with no setup steps. The server supports lossless PCM as well as DSD formats (FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, DSF, DIFF, DoP) including compressed MP3, and is JPLAY certified.

The construction is derived from the P1 player — a thick-walled CNC-machined aluminium chassis provides shielding, mechanical rigidity and vibration-free operation. A low-noise power supply in a separate shielded compartment isolates the mains section from the sensitive electronics and limits interference injected into the data path. The supply operates across 100–240 V AC with automatic voltage detection. Dimensions of 350 × 350 × 60.5 mm and a weight of 6 kg reflect a substantial build with no compromise in shielding.

The network section offers two SFP ports for optical fibre and two gigabit RJ45 ports (1000BASE-T). An optical link delivers complete galvanic isolation of the chain from the rest of the home network, eliminating the transfer of electrical noise from routers and inexpensive switches. The four ports also simplify cabling within the system and remove the need for additional network components near the hi-fi. The result is a data stream delivered to the network player without added high-frequency burden, which translates into a calmer background to the recording and more stable imaging of instruments.

The server software has been developed specifically for the needs of LUMIN users — the emphasis is on operational stability, tag handling and support for high-resolution PCM and DSD files. Content transfer takes place via USB 3.0 Micro Type B in slave mode when connected to a computer, or over the network using the SMB protocol. Two USB 3.0 Type A ports are reserved for future use. This version is supplied without drives, the model range being designed for a pair of 2.5" SSDs.
