LAN Switch LUMIN L2 4TB SSD Silver

LUMIN L2 4TB SSD – a music library with dual SSDs and an audiophile-grade network switch

The LUMIN L2 is a UPnP (OpenHome) music server with an internal capacity of 4 TB (2× 2 TB 2.5" SSD), complemented by a 4-port audiophile-grade network switch. The unit requires no configuration – music is added via USB or over the network, and the library is made available to players automatically. It is intended above all for owners of LUMIN network players who want their own collection stored locally instead of on an external NAS.

The server software, developed by LUMIN itself, puts the emphasis on operational stability, tag handling and support for high-resolution PCM and DSD – specifically DSF, DIFF and DoP for DSD, FLAC, ALAC, WAV and AIFF for lossless PCM, plus MP3. Connection to a computer is handled by USB 3.0 Micro type B in slave mode, while network transfers are covered by SMB support over gigabit Ethernet. A pair of USB 3.0 type A ports is reserved for future use.

The network section offers 2× RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T) and 2× SFP slots for optical fibre in the industrial standard. An optical link galvanically isolates the hi-fi system from the rest of the home network, eliminating the transfer of electrical noise from the router or cheap switches. The integrated switch also simplifies cabling and removes the need for further active components near the audio chain.

The construction is derived from the reference P1 player – a massive CNC-machined aluminium chassis with thick panels damps vibration and shields the sensitive electronics. The internal power supply with automatic 100–240 V AC range operates in a shielded, low-noise power compartment, and the generous internal board layout limits mutual interference. The result is a data stream delivered to the network player without any admixture of network noise, which shows itself in a calmer background and more precise localisation of instruments within the stereo image.
