The Stage III Concepts A.S.P. Kraken is a reference-class AC power cable built for components with virtually unlimited current demands – from sources and preamplifiers to power amplifiers and active loudspeakers. The design is based on six solid AeroStrand Ultra ribbon conductors made of a silver and palladium alloy, run in an air dielectric with FEP Teflon tubes. Noise rejection is handled by the multi-layer H.D.A. shielding matrix, in which every conductor as well as three silver-plated ground conductors is shielded by its own silver-plated braid. The result is immunity to EMI/RFI even without a line filter in the chain, plus suppression of microphony that otherwise travels into the power branch as modulation of the noise floor.
Termination is provided by Hyperion Ceramic connectors with silver-copper alloy contacts, palladium-plated and cryogenically treated, housed in hand-made carbon bodies filled with polymer. This combination limits the transfer of external vibration into the contact surface and maintains stable contact resistance. In practice, the low impedance and thorough shielding translate into a quiet background, more precise instrument localisation and a controlled, fast bass register with no compression on dynamic peaks.
The cable draws on 16 years of development in power delivery using silver ribbon conductors and is built entirely by hand in the USA from in-house components, with no off-the-shelf parts.
