StormAudio ISP Core 16+ is an immersive audio processor housed in a compact 3U chassis, derived from the architecture of the higher-tier Elite range and capable of decoding and upmixing up to 18 channels. It supports Dolby Atmos, Auro-3D, DTS:X Pro, IMAX Enhanced, MPEG-H and 360 Reality Audio formats, is Roon Ready certified and allows multi-theater, multi-layout and multi-room configurations. Compared with the base model, the Core 16+ version brings the StormXT channel expander, expert bass routing and a dual-zone HDMI matrix as standard.
The audio section uses the same DAC components as the Elite range along with hybrid analogue-digital volume control, which according to the manufacturer extends the usable dynamic range. The signal leaves the processor through 16 analogue XLR outputs, supplemented by a pair of Toslink optical outputs for a stereo downmix to Zone 2. The input section comprises seven HDMI 2.1 inputs and two outputs with ARC/eARC, HDCP 2.3, HLG and 40 Gbps throughput on all ports, plus four analogue RCA inputs (7.1 or stereo) and six S/PDIF inputs split into three optical and three coaxial. The two-zone HDMI matrix makes it possible to route video and audio independently to two spaces.
Room correction is handled by Dirac Live with the Room Correction, Bass Control and Active Room Treatment modules, and the REW plugin is supported as well. The Core 16+ version includes StormAudio Expert Bass Routing, i.e. flexible routing of bass channels, which on the base model has to be purchased as a licence. Combined with standard bass management, support for multi-way speakers and multiple subwoofers, low-frequency reproduction is evened out and uneven room decay is shortened. The result is a more consistent bass register across listening positions and more stable localisation of sound objects in space.
Setup and control take place via a web interface, the StormRemote app for tablets and mobile devices, an infrared remote or a TCP/IP network connection with drivers for Control4, URC, Crestron, RTI, Savant and Nice (ELAN). The StormEasy Wizard guides the installation configuration step by step. Measuring 442 × 402 × 133 mm and weighing 9 kg, it is a space-saving solution with a five-year warranty.
