The HST-5000 is a headphone stand intended primarily for Yamaha's flagship YH-5000SE. Its construction is based on CNC-machined aluminium, which gives the surface a precise texture and the whole piece high rigidity. A weight of approximately 980 g and dimensions of 118 × 283 × 146 mm (W × H × D) contribute to a firm stance, even when the headphones are set down repeatedly.
In terms of materials, the stand combines an aluminium alloy with a brass (copper) alloy, which affects weight distribution and base stability. The upper section has a smooth arched shape that follows the headband of the headphones and spreads the pressure over a larger area of the headband.
The shaping of the support reduces point loading on the headband padding, helping it retain its original shape over long-term use. In addition to the YH-5000SE, the stand is also compatible with the YH-4000 and YH-C3000 headphones.
Yamaha is one of the few hi-fi manufacturers that also builds concert grand pianos and wind instruments. When developing an amplifier or a speaker system, therefore, it does not have to guess what a real instrument should sound like, as it has one to hand and can compare the sound to it. This forms the basis of a principle the brand has adhered to since the 1970s, known as ‘Natural Sound’: sound without embellishment and without any inherent colouration. In 1974, this principle was established by the NS-1000 loudspeakers with beryllium drivers, and ever since it has guided everything Yamaha produces for home listening, from turntables and amplifiers right through to AV receivers and wireless systems. Anyone looking for a sound that neither enhances nor embellishes a recording in any way will find exactly that with Yamaha.
