The HEP-5000LS are replacement earpads designed for the Yamaha YH-4000 orthodynamic headphones, and they are also compatible with the YH-5000SE model. The construction combines synthetic suede with a pronounced texture on the contact surface and highly elastic PU leather around the perimeter, bringing two different finishes together into a single whole. The earpads weigh approximately 30 g.
The materials are finished with three-dimensional stitching, which maintains the shape of the earpad and its fit against the head. The elastic PU leather around the perimeter contributes to a tight seal, while the suede surface influences the character of contact with the skin and long-term listening comfort.
The entire surface of the earpad is finely perforated, which reduces the sealing of the space between the driver and the ear and supports a more open, more spacious presentation. The combination of both materials merges the warmer character of velour with the resolution typical of leather, delivering a sound with legible detail but without hardness.
Yamaha is one of the few hi-fi manufacturers that also builds concert grand pianos and wind instruments. When developing an amplifier or a speaker system, therefore, it does not have to guess what a real instrument should sound like, as it has one to hand and can compare the sound to it. This forms the basis of a principle the brand has adhered to since the 1970s, known as ‘Natural Sound’: sound without embellishment and without any inherent colouration. In 1974, this principle was established by the NS-1000 loudspeakers with beryllium drivers, and ever since it has guided everything Yamaha produces for home listening, from turntables and amplifiers right through to AV receivers and wireless systems. Anyone looking for a sound that neither enhances nor embellishes a recording in any way will find exactly that with Yamaha.
