Description

Balanced headphone cable with 4.4 mm Pentaconn connector and silver-plated OFC copper cores

The HBC-SC020 is a balanced headphone cable designed primarily for the flagship YH-5000SE, fitted with a mechanically robust 4.4 mm Pentaconn connector. The balanced wiring separates the return legs of the left and right channels, which contributes to better channel separation and cleaner signal transfer from the source to the drivers. The 2-metre length suits desktop use with headphone amplifiers and DACs featuring a balanced output.

The conductor cores are made of silver-plated oxygen-free copper (OFC), which preserves the original character of the signal without needless losses. The cable uses a precisely braided conductor structure that optimises the cable geometry and helps achieve a high signal-to-noise ratio. The Pentaconn connector construction is designed with an emphasis on reliable contact through repeated connecting.

In terms of reproduction, the combination of balanced wiring and a low-noise conductor structure shows itself in the legibility of fine detail and a stable, spatially expansive soundstage with precise instrument localisation. Besides the YH-5000SE, the cable is also compatible with the YH-4000 and YH-C3000 models, so it can be used across Yamaha's high-end headphone range.

Yamaha

Yamaha is one of the few hi-fi manufacturers that also builds concert grand pianos and wind instruments. When developing an amplifier or a speaker system, therefore, it does not have to guess what a real instrument should sound like, as it has one to hand and can compare the sound to it. This forms the basis of a principle the brand has adhered to since the 1970s, known as ‘Natural Sound’: sound without embellishment and without any inherent colouration. In 1974, this principle was established by the NS-1000 loudspeakers with beryllium drivers, and ever since it has guided everything Yamaha produces for home listening, from turntables and amplifiers right through to AV receivers and wireless systems. Anyone looking for a sound that neither enhances nor embellishes a recording in any way will find exactly that with Yamaha.
