Gyrotension is a floating-type anti-vibration isolation footer designed to suppress mechanical resonances and micro-vibrations in sensitive audio components, primarily turntables. Rather than being a simple damping element, it combines an isolator and an energy dissipator built around a radially symmetric structure of silicone strands. Their number and tension can be adjusted according to the weight of the equipment, tailoring the damping stiffness to the specific application. The South Korean brand Hifistay has been developing anti-vibration solutions for audio for more than two decades.
The design works with a three-stage vibration isolation system: flexible silicone strands capture high-frequency micro-vibrations, a conical spring in the lower section absorbs low-frequency components, and a 3-point mount with ceramic balls allows pendulum-like movement in the horizontal plane. Mechanical energy is therefore not fed back into the chassis but is gradually dissipated. The three-part body is also shaped so that it blends into the system without visual distraction.
The Gyrotension Swing range comprises two models. The M version uses 48 silicone filaments, stands 41–55 mm tall, measures 60 mm in width and supports up to 12 kg per footer, i.e. up to 48 kg with a set of four. The larger L model works with 72 radially symmetric silicone filaments, has a height of 51–60 mm, a width of 80 mm and a load capacity of 16 kg per footer, which with a set of four corresponds to equipment weighing up to 64 kg. The adjustable height allows precise levelling of the component.
Thorough decoupling of the component from its support is most audible in analogue playback, where the cartridge and tonearm respond even to very low levels of vibration. Reducing feedback from the rack contributes to a lower noise floor, more legible micro-detail, more stable instrument localisation and a more accurate rendering of the recording's space.
The South Korean brand HIFISTAY™ specialises in the development and manufacture of hi-fi audio accessories that suppress unwanted vibrations, thereby improving sound quality. Its founder and chief designer, Pyun Naiwon, started out modestly in 2002 – with a presser weight for vinyl records. From these humble beginnings, the company has grown into a business that now manufactures a complete range of anti-vibration solutions and protects its know-how with several patents. HIFISTAY’s philosophy is based on a simple realisation: sound quality is determined not only by the components themselves, but also by what they stand on. Vibrations from the floor, from the speakers and from the equipment itself can obscure details, narrow the soundstage and compromise the precision of the bass.
At the heart of the range are audio racks that utilise proprietary VHC™ (Vertical Horizon Vibration Control), X-Frame & Perfect Pointer™ and Anti-gravity™ technologies, designed to dampen vibrations in both vertical and horizontal directions. The range is complemented by mats and stands for components, spikes and spike pads, as well as weighted dampers, which can be used to fine-tune every element of the system – from turntables and sources through to amplifiers and speakers. You’ll appreciate HIFISTAY accessories whether you’re building a new system or want to extract even more clarity, tranquillity and musical precision from your current setup.
