Loewe Grand Inicio – passive floorstanding speakers with PURIFI USHINDI drivers and an AMT tweeter module

Loewe Grand Inicio is a pair of passive floorstanding speakers intended for demanding High-End stereo systems. The two-way configuration combines two 6.5" bass/midrange drivers using PURIFI USHINDI technology with an AMT (Air Motion Transformer) tweeter module, with the crossover frequency set at 2,300 Hz. A frequency response of 35–22,000 Hz (±3 dB), a maximum power handling of 400 W at 4 Ω and a maximum sound pressure of approximately 89 dB SPL define the envelope within which the system works without dynamic compression.

PURIFI drivers are built on Ultra Low Distortion Transducer Technology, NeutralSurround technology and the PermanentCore design. Large-area, lightweight and rigid alloy cones, a four-layer copper voice coil 39 mm in diameter on a glass-fibre reinforced former, powerful neodymium magnets and a vented die-cast basket work together to reduce distortion even at large excursions. The surround geometry ensures ultra-linear excursion in both the positive and negative directions. The AMT tweeter is complemented by a massive aluminium waveguide that directs the radiation in the top end.

The cabinet works as a front-ported bass reflex design and stands on a solid aluminium base with integrated decoupling technology. Threaded inserts allow spikes, pucks or a base plate to be fitted; spikes and a leveller for precise alignment are included. Damping the transmission of vibration into the floor contributes to a more stable bass register and more precise localisation of instruments within the stereo image. The low distortion of the drivers shows up as readable microdetail and a quiet background to the recording.

Connection is provided by gold-plated speaker terminals compatible with banana plugs, supporting bi-wiring and bi-amping; jumper bridges are included along with a 4 m speaker cable. Separate runs for the high and low bands widen the scope for tuning the system. The speakers are built individually at Loewe's headquarters in Kronach; the Fractal Walnut finish with a titanium frame is complemented by a magnetically attached grille. Dimensions 26 × 135 × 30 cm, weight approximately 33.5 kg each; the price is for a pair.
