The Stage III Concepts A.S.P. Gorgon is a reference-class analogue interconnect designed to carry line-level signal between source and amplifier. It follows on from the long-acclaimed Gryphon model, though the construction has been reworked from the ground up. The signal is carried by four cryogenically treated AeroStrandUltra™ ribbon conductors of silver-palladium alloy with increased cross-section, slowly extruded to order and arranged in a quad helix configuration that limits mutual inductive coupling between the conductors.
The dielectric consists of a vacuum core of nylon and FEP Teflon drawn down to 675 mm Hg, reducing the influence of the insulating material on the transmitted signal. Shielding is handled in multiple stages: 100 % H.D.A. shielding resistant to high-frequency interference is complemented by an outer ASPIS™ shield of woven metallised copper and conductive nylon. The multi-layer construction with ferrite, ceramics and high-density alloy granulate also serves to mechanically damp resonances and ground currents.
The combination of increased conductor cross-section, vacuum dielectric and thorough shielding pushes distortion to a practically immeasurable level. In practice this translates into a neutral presentation with no emphasis on particular frequency bands, high legibility of micro-detail, precise localisation of instruments within the stereo image and a stable signal with no audible noise floor. The damping of mechanical resonances contributes to a calmer delivery in dynamically demanding passages.
The cable is made exclusively by hand, without the use of off-the-shelf components. The conductors are housed in hand-woven carbon fibre sleeving and terminated with proprietary HYPERION RCA or XLR connectors in silver, cryogenically treated and fitted with insulators of ceramic-infused polymer. This is a solution intended for highly resolving systems in which the interconnect represents the limiting link in the signal path.
