Record clamp and acoustic resonator with a micro-ball damping system

The HiFiStay Dharma is a multifunctional anti-vibration accessory that acts as a record clamp for turntables while also working as an acoustic resonator. It is secured to the centre spindle by a system of three springs and a ceramic bearing, which holds the clamp firmly and without play. The Dharma & Twister set consists of two separate components, with the Twister serving as the pivot point and fastening element for the Dharma itself.

Inside the body there are no fewer than 5,200 stainless steel micro-balls and several ceramic bearings. The mechanical energy of vibrations is converted into heat through friction between the balls, drawing it away from the signal path. The Dharma measures 85 mm in diameter and 43 mm in height and weighs 427 g; the Twister stands on a round base 40 mm in diameter, 26 mm tall and weighing 19.05 g. The accessory is supplied in a wooden box.

Clamping the record firmly to the platter, together with the dispersion of acoustic waves, reduces the micro-vibrations transferred to the cartridge. The result is a more legible rendering of detail, more precise localisation of instruments within the stereo image and a more controlled, firmer bass register. A lower level of resonance contributes to a calmer background behind the recording.

Its use is not limited to turntables. The Dharma & Twister can also be placed under CD transports, DAC converters, music servers, amplifiers or network streamers, where it uses the same principle to damp the transfer of vibrations into sensitive circuits and mechanisms.
