Hifistay Centum IX – passive absorber of surface vibrations and chassis resonances in audio components

Centum IX is an anti-vibration accessory designed to suppress surface vibrations and resonances of audio component chassis. It is placed on top of the device and is particularly effective with units containing moving parts, such as the electric motors of CD players and CD transports, or with components featuring mains transformers that generate mechanical tremor transmitted into the construction.

The heart of the design is a multi-layer horizontal bearing with four levels, built from metal rings with balls between them. The balls can be chosen in ceramic or stainless steel – in some set-ups ceramic delivers the better result, in others steel. The precisely tuned depth of the grooves in which the balls rest contributes to maximum effectiveness in neutralising vibrations.

Draining mechanical energy from the surface of the chassis reduces resonant colouration of the reproduction. The result is less excessive hardness in the presentation and more precise focus of the sound image. The position on the component is chosen experimentally – at the spot with the most pronounced positive influence on the resulting sound.
