Carbide Base Micro – a compact isolation footer system with interchangeable damping inserts

Carbide Base Micro is an anti-vibration isolation footer intended for loudspeakers, turntables and electronics, bringing the construction of the acclaimed Carbide Base model in a smaller format. The key to the design lies in the interchangeable Micro ViscoRing™ inserts, which are selected according to the weight range of the supported component, or alternatively the stiffer TwinDamp™ inserts. The footers are sold individually, so a set can be tailored to both three-point and four-point support.

TwinDamp™ inserts are made from a treated alloy with high internal damping. Their rigid connection between the component and the supporting surface is similar in character to classic spikes, while the viscoelastic material used in the Micro ViscoRing™ works on the principle of compliant suspension and generally provides a greater degree of isolation. The choice of insert therefore directly determines whether firm mechanical grounding or decoupling from the surface prevails.

The Sapphire and Diamond versions add a ball-bearing isolator to the upper part of the footer, extending effectiveness in the horizontal plane and improving overall isolation performance. Lower transfer of vibrations from the supporting surface into the chassis or cabinet translates in practice into a cleaner background, more legible localisation of instruments and greater contrast between quiet and loud passages.

Choosing the right configuration is based on the weight of the supported component — variants are available from very light to very heavy loads. The modular approach allows the inserts to be changed later without replacing the entire footer, adapting the system to a different component.
