LUMIN Amp — fully discrete dual mono Class AB power amplifier for direct drive from a DAC
The LUMIN Amp is a stereo power amplifier conceived as the muscle behind LUMIN network players. It operates in Class AB with fully discrete voltage and current gain stages, delivering 160 W per channel into 8 Ω and 320 W into 4 Ω. High input impedance and 1.16 Vrms sensitivity allow direct drive from a DAC without inserting a preamplifier into the signal path.
The design is rigorously executed as true dual mono — from the power supply to the output stages, each channel is a mirror image of the other. Separate supply rails with a 600VA custom toroidal transformer and advanced low-noise voltage regulation ensure full power on both channels simultaneously and minimise crosstalk. The chassis is CNC machined from a single block of aluminium (front, top and sides) with 8 mm walls, plus a separate rear panel and base; the 19 kg mass contributes to mechanical stability and resonance suppression.
A DC-coupled signal path free of coupling capacitors, combined with a multi-stage transistor architecture, keeps distortion low and the signal-to-noise ratio at 103 dB (unweighted). A frequency response of 20 Hz – 40 kHz ±0.1 dB and an output impedance of 0.1 Ω mean a high damping factor — firm control over bass drivers, legible micro-detail and rock-solid imaging within the stereo stage.
The operating mode is switchable between stereo, dual mono and bridged operation delivering 640 W into 8 Ω, allowing a gradual move to a monoblock setup. Balanced XLR inputs (pin 2 hot, 200 kΩ) and unbalanced RCA (100 kΩ) are both available. Intelligent bias and thermal management, together with protection against overload, overheating and DC on the output, safeguard both the amplifier and the connected loudspeakers.
