MOON 888 – monoblock power amplifier with MDCA topology and 888 W into 8 ohms

The MOON 888 is a monoblock power amplifier built to drive even the most demanding loudspeakers without compromising signal integrity. It delivers 888 W into 8 ohms and 1776 W into 4 ohms, remaining absolutely stable even under high current loads. The key element is the MDCA topology, which operates without global negative feedback and contributes to dynamic coherence and phase accuracy. The output transistor section with a total power handling of 8 kW ensures the amplifier always runs far below its limits.

The construction is based on massive one-piece cast aluminium heatsinks, produced using the same processes as racing engine blocks and then CNC-machined to a tolerance of 1/1000 of an inch. The audio circuits are integrated directly into the monolithic heatsink, reducing microphony and vibration transfer to a minimum. The all-aluminium chassis, made from cast and milled parts, provides passive cooling and stable thermal regulation. The power supply relies on massive transformers and more than 350,000 μF of capacitance in the energy reservoir, allowing instantaneous current delivery during dynamic peaks.

In terms of reproduction, the 888 behaves like a neutral link with no colouration of its own. A signal-to-noise ratio of 120 dB at full power and a frequency response of 10 Hz – 200 kHz (+0/-3 dB) translate into legible detail even at high volume levels. The high damping factor keeps driver diaphragms under control without making the tone sound constricted, so large orchestral passages and wide dynamic transitions remain articulate, free of compression and listening fatigue. Instrument localisation stays stable across the entire dynamic range.

The 136 kg weight is not decorative but structural – it forms a mechanically silent foundation for the signal path. The amplifier uses components of the highest quality, including massive rhodium-plated speaker binding posts. Every unit is hand-assembled and tested in Montreal, Canada, to the same standards that apply to the entire MOON collection.
