MOON 820S external power supply with separate analogue and digital sections for two devices at once
The MOON 820S is an external linear power supply designed to upgrade compatible MOON components. It is built to power up to two devices simultaneously, with independent rails for analogue and digital products. It emerged from long-term development focused on the purity of the supply voltage, which directly influences the sound quality of the connected unit.
The foundation of the design consists of two custom toroidal transformers — one for the analogue and one for the digital supply section. They feature lower magnetic, electrical and thermal losses, which improves energy transfer and reduces the regulation factor. The result is faster current delivery and better dynamics. After the rectifier stage, each rail features two special "pi" filters with a total capacitance of 40,000 µF (4 × 10,000 µF) and a dual choke of 2 × 20 mH, suppressing interference carried in from the mains.
Voltage regulation is handled by four stages of the proprietary M-R2S circuit in both the analogue and digital sections. This is a fully discrete solution in which a precise voltage reference controls an amplifier made up of several integrated circuits and transistors, instead of a single regulator chip. The DC voltage obtained in this way is exceptionally fast, accurate, voltage-stable and with a practically unmeasurable noise level.
The entire electronics are implemented on four-layer printed circuit boards with pure copper traces, which exhibit extremely low impedance and significantly shorten the signal paths. In practice, the combination of a low noise floor and stable power delivery translates into more legible detail, more precise instrument localisation and better controlled dynamics of the connected component. The package includes two 4-pin XLR cables for the analogue section and two 5-pin XLR cables for the digital section.
