The Burmester 808 MK5 Preamplifier stands as an undisputed global reference, setting the ultimate benchmark in analogue playback since its debut in 1980. Built upon a revolutionary modular architecture, the 808 MK5 accommodates up to six input and two output module slots, allowing bespoke configurations for any high-end system. Volume control is executed via a passive R-2R resistor network with gold-plated reed relays, providing 60 precision logarithmically stepped levels with absolute channel symmetry. Each discrete module features selected Class-A X-Amp amplification stages, while internal signal paths utilize proprietary, electrically and magnetically shielded Burmester silver cables for pristine signal purity. Complete with its iconic chrome top plate hosting up to 20 special potentiometers, an external ultra-low-noise power supply, and balanced XLR connectivity, this Berlin-handcrafted masterpiece delivers unmatched dynamic authority, micro-resolution, and timeless luxury.

The German company Burmester Audiosysteme GmbH, founded in Berlin in 1977 by Dieter Burmester, sets the global benchmark for high-end audio technology. To this day, it remains an independent family-run business that combines uncompromising engineering, handcrafted production at its Berlin workshop and an unmistakable design featuring chrome front panels. It has a long history of firsts – from the world’s first modular preamplifier to the first belt-driven CD player. In 2005, it became the first high-end manufacturer to enter the automotive world, and today its sound can be heard in Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari cars.
Its product range includes pre-amplifiers and power amplifiers, phono pre-amplifiers, CD and network players, turntables, mains conditioners and loudspeaker systems. More than 95 per cent of the components come from German manufacturers, and every unit undergoes a seven-day burn-in period before dispatch, involving more than 300 computerised measurements and a final listening test. Burmester products are designed to last for decades – they are reliable, repairable and ready for future upgrades.
