MOON 761 – dual-mono power amplifier with MDCA architecture and no global feedback
The MOON 761 is a stereo power amplifier from the North Collection, designed to carry the signal from a preamplifier to your loudspeakers with an emphasis on transparency and control. The MDCA (MOON Distortion-Cancelling Amplifier) amplification architecture suppresses distortion without using global feedback, which contributes to a stable response and consistent dynamics at any volume level. The dual-mono design provides complete channel separation, including an independent power supply for each channel.
Power reserves reach 200 W into 8 ohms and 400 W into 4 ohms, and up to 600 W into 8 ohms in mono mode; switching is handled by a stereo/mono switch on the rear panel. Energy is supplied by two low-noise 700 VA toroidal transformers and filter capacitance exceeding 150,000 µF, enabling rapid current delivery during musical peaks. Cooling is handled by side-mounted heatsinks, the internal board layout minimises mutual interference, and shielded circuits together with protection circuitry support long-term operational reliability within the aluminium chassis.
A damping factor of 800 and low output impedance mean a firm grip on complex loudspeaker impedance curves, above all in the bass region, without blurring the soundstage. A frequency range of 2 Hz – 100 kHz (+0 / –3 dB), a signal-to-noise ratio of 117 dB, crosstalk of –116 dB and THD+N distortion of 0.002 % at 1 W (0.001 % at 200 W) translate into readable micro-detail, precise instrument localisation and a silent background even at lower volumes. A gain of 31 dB and input sensitivity of 1.1 V with an input impedance of 47 kΩ make it easy to pair with common preamplifiers.
Connectivity is provided by balanced XLR inputs as well as unbalanced RCA. The MOONLink bus allows system integration with MOON preamplifiers, for example the 791. Standby consumption drops to 1.25 W, while full-power standby mode keeps the unit instantly ready. Operating status is indicated by a multi-colour LED.
