MOON 400M – mono power amplifier with a fully differential architecture and no global feedback
The MOON 400M is a mono power amplifier built on the Advanced Renaissance circuit architecture, which operates in class A/AB with zero global feedback and a direct DC-coupled signal path. The design delivers 400 W into 8 ohms and 650 W into 4 ohms, so it handles even loudspeakers with low sensitivity or a demanding impedance curve. The first 10 W operate in class A, eliminating crossover distortion at low listening levels.
The power supply is oversized and features an in-house toroidal transformer with low magnetic, electrical and thermal losses, plus a large reservoir of capacitive energy storage. A lower regulation factor increases the speed of current delivery during dynamic peaks. The output stage uses precisely matched MOON bipolar transistors with highly linear gain, and the entire path is fully differential, with both balanced XLR and single-ended RCA inputs. The rigid chassis suppresses the influence of external vibration, while the proprietary heatsink geometry keeps operating temperatures low.
The absence of overall feedback brings real-time amplification without phase errors and with virtually no intermodulation distortion, which translates into faithful tonality and clearly defined instrument placement. A high damping factor keeps the bass drivers' cones under control, so the low end sounds tight and deep. A low noise floor and wide dynamic range contribute to spaciousness and microdetail clarity even at higher levels.
System integration is made easier by a 12 V trigger input and output for remote switching and an RS-232 port with two-way communication and firmware update capability. Rigorous selection of electronic components and the low thermal stress they endure support a long service life.
