MOON 371 – network player and integrated amplifier with MDCA technology and the MiND 2 streaming platform

The MOON 371 is a network player and integrated amplifier that combines an amplifier, preamplifier, DAC, phono stage and streamer in a single chassis. It forms the cornerstone of the COMPASS collection and is intended for complete systems where a single unit has to handle both digital sources and a turntable. Amplification is handled by MDCA technology – MOON Distortion-Cancelling Amplifier, power is supplied by the MHP – MOON Hybrid Power supply, and streaming is taken care of by the MiND 2 platform.

The power section delivers 100 W into 8 Ω and 200 W into 4 Ω, while a damping factor of 425 suggests firm control over bass drivers. THD+N distortion reaches 0.009 % at 1 W and 0.003 % at full power, intermodulation distortion is 0.005 %, signal-to-noise ratio is 108 dB and the same figure applies to crosstalk between channels. The frequency response of 5 Hz – 100 kHz (+0/−3 dB) extends beyond the audible band and contributes to phase purity in the upper region.

For analogue sources there is a built-in phono stage supporting both MM and MC cartridges, so a turntable can be connected without an external preamplifier. Low distortion combined with a high signal-to-noise ratio results in legible microdynamics and stable localisation of instruments within the stereo image; the high damping factor keeps the bass well contoured even with more demanding loudspeakers. Input sensitivity of 0.3 – 4 V, input impedance of 9.5 kΩ and 40 dB of gain allow matching to a variety of sources.

The MiND 2 streaming platform gives access to Tidal, Deezer, Qobuz and Spotify, with control via the MOON MiND Controller app for iOS and Android or directly through Spotify, Tidal Connect and Qobuz Connect. The unit is Roon Ready and supports Apple AirPlay as well as Bluetooth. Operation is complemented by a large colour display showing track and setup information and the metal CRM-4 remote control; system integration with other components is handled by the MOONLink bus. The 42.9 × 8.7 × 38.5 cm chassis is accompanied by 30 W consumption at idle and 6 W in energy-saving standby mode.
