Description

D/A converter with zeroPhase technology and LEEDH digital volume control

The 360 D/A Converter is a digital-to-analogue converter conceived as a source component designed to convey the content of a recording with nothing lost and nothing added. Four digital inputs — AES/EBU (110 Ω), SPDIF (75 Ω), USB and a network input — allow a wide range of digital sources to be connected. Supported formats include PCM 16–24 bit / 32–192 kHz, DXD 24 bit / 384 kHz on the network input and DSD (DoP) from DSD64 to DSD128.

All incoming signals are handled by a powerful DSP, which converts them to DXD format and performs both zeroPhase correction and volume control. Conversion itself is carried out by two PCM1792 circuits wired in mono configuration, one per channel, with their internal digital filtering bypassed. The reconstruction filter is implemented as passive, using precision custom-made components, which maintains a stable filter characteristic — a prerequisite for accurate phase compensation.

zeroPhase technology addresses the fact that every converter needs an analogue low-pass filter at its output to suppress high-frequency noise and aliasing. The minute timing errors introduced by this filter are eliminated, contributing to more accurate time coherence and stable imaging of instruments. LEEDH-based volume control, in turn, markedly reduces the rounding errors that afflict conventional digital attenuators, so low-level detail remains legible even at lower listening levels. The measurable reflection of this concept is THD below 0.0003 % and a noise level below −140 dBV/√Hz.

Operation is via three buttons on the front panel and a rotary control, with operating states shown on a clear display. Configuration functions allow the converter to be tailored to the whole system as well as to individual components. Available are a balanced XLR output (4 Vrms, 10 Ω) and unbalanced RCA (2 Vrms, 5 Ω), a volume range of −79 to 0 dB and a pair of LINK connectors (3.5 mm) for remote system power-up. Frequency response extends from 0 to 200 kHz (−3 dB) and standby consumption is below 0.5 W.

Soulution

Swiss manufacturer Soulution Audio represents the pinnacle of ultra-high-end audio engineering. The brand was founded in Dulliken, Switzerland, by Cyrill Hammer and Roland Manz, managing directors of Spemot—a renowned Swiss precision engineering firm specialized in electric motors and custom electronics. Driven by a passion for music and a desire to transcend the limitations of existing reference equipment, they set out to create audio electronics characterized by extreme speed, surgical accuracy, infinite dynamic scaling, and zero tonal coloration.

Leveraging Swiss manufacturing expertise alongside an elite team of engineers, Soulution officially launched its reference line of amplifiers, preamplifiers, and digital sources around 2005–2006. Soulution components incorporate ultra-fast circuit topologies, massive power supplies, and uncompromising current control, allowing loudspeakers to reveal the subtle micro-details of a recording with effortless naturalness. Hand-built in Switzerland to exacting standards, Soulution products are designed for audiophiles who demand absolute sonic truth, uncompromised signal purity, and sovereign speaker control.
