Balanced stereo power amplifier with a zero global feedback architecture
The MOON 330A is a two-channel power amplifier conceived as the stereo version of the 400M monoblocks. It delivers 120 W per channel into 8 ohms, running in pure class A up to 5 W and switching to A/AB operation above that level; into a 4 ohm load it offers headroom of up to 250 W per channel. At its core lies a fully balanced differential architecture and the Advanced Renaissance amplifier circuit with zero global feedback, complemented by a DC-coupled circuit design with no coupling capacitors in the signal path.
The power supply section is built around an oversized design with a proprietary toroidal transformer featuring low magnetic, electrical and thermal losses together with extensive energy storage capacity. A lower regulation factor and faster current delivery pay off during dynamic peaks. The output stage uses precisely matched MOON bipolar transistors with highly linear gain, while cooling is handled by a heatsink with proprietary fin geometry that keeps operating temperatures low. The rigid chassis construction limits the influence of external vibration on sensitive circuitry.
The absence of global feedback eliminates phase errors and virtually suppresses intermodulation distortion, which translates into more faithful tonality and amplification taking place in real time. A high damping factor keeps the bass drivers' cones under control, so the low end sounds tight and articulate, transient response is fast, and the low noise floor leaves room for fine detail and stable instrument placement within the soundstage.
On the input side there are balanced XLR as well as single-ended RCA inputs, allowing a preamplifier to be connected over a balanced path without signal conversion. Integration into controlled systems is simplified by a 12 V trigger input and output and an RS-232 interface with two-way communication and firmware update capability. Components are selected with an emphasis on long-term parameter stability.
