CD transport with a proprietary transport mechanism on a floating gel suspension and an optional DAC stage
The MOON 260DT is a digital CD transport designed for systems where digital-to-analogue conversion takes place in a separate component. Data retrieval is handled by a proprietary CD mechanism mounted on a 4-point floating gel suspension, which reduces the transfer of vibrations into the pickup assembly and improves the accuracy of reading data from the disc. Two digital outputs – S/PDIF and AES/EBU are available, so the transport can be connected to a wide range of external converters.
In the 260D version, the unit is supplemented by an optional DAC stage with analogue outputs in both balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) form, with a level of 2.0 V at 0 dBFS and an output impedance of 75 Ω. The USB, TosLink and coaxial inputs allow external digital sources to be connected, including a computer or a streamer, with support for PCM formats of 16–24 bit at sampling rates of 44.1–192 kHz. The unit therefore works as a digital hub for both disc-based and file-based playback.
The thorough engineering shows in the measured figures: intrinsic jitter of 1 ps RMS, dynamic range and signal-to-noise ratio of 120 dB, channel separation of 116 dB and THD of 0.005 % at 1 kHz. Low jitter contributes to the stability of the time base, which translates into more precise localisation of instruments and clearly legible detail in decaying notes. A frequency response of 2 Hz – 100 kHz (+0/–3 dB) together with high channel separation preserves the spatial structure of the recording without narrowing the stereo image.
Housed in a chassis measuring 429 × 86 × 333 mm and weighing 7.5 kg, the unit is conceived as a long-term, sustainable solution – the combination of classic disc playback and connectivity for modern digital sources allows the system to be expanded gradually without replacing the source component.
