Technology

YG speakers combine the latest in science and technology. They are made from the most powerful materials, manufactured in-house with unprecedented precision. They deliver exceptional measurements: huge frequency bandwidth, exceptional phase coherence, enormous dynamic range and vanishingly low distortion.

More importantly, they provide the clearest transparency into performance. They communicate every nuance of emotion, every musical cue from the smallest micro detail to the physical impact of the most tumultuous crescendo.

YG products combine cutting-edge technology, world-class computational modeling, and the best in precision engineering. A highly sophisticated CNC machine shop allows YG to manufacture custom drivers and most other precision parts in-house: exceptionally rare in an era of outsourcing and mass production. The depth and breadth of these capabilities allows them to present speakers that are far more accurate than could otherwise be achieved.

Simulation, measurement and listening form the basis of every IG design, from the earliest conceptual sketches, to the finest technical details. YG’s approach to simulation is unusual because it looks beyond the loudspeakers – it models the entire audio system, tracing the influence and interactions of all components and cables, down to the elaborate interplay of amplifier, switchgear, drive units, cabinet and room. But they never forget that the human ear is the ultimate consumer. The ultimate goal is to create a certain magic that makes you believe the musicians are in the room and an emotional involvement that takes you into the heart of the musical experience.

DualCoherent TM
The stated goal of loudspeaker design is to transmit music with the right tonality. This is achieved through a flat frequency response – the flatter it is, the less the speaker changes the colour of musical instruments and voices. Another key goal is to preserve the transient and spatial cues that convey the impact of the musical event. This is achieved by good relative phase between exciters, i.e. they must all radiate in unison – the better the phase match, the more the loudspeaker preserves the musical excitement. YG Acoustics™ DualCoherent™ exciters, designed using software developed entirely in-house, are unique in providing a frequency response with a flat line and near-zero relative phase. Virtually all other manufacturers use one commonly available software tool that can only optimize frequency response or phase, but not both. They are forced to choose one and compromise the other.

Advanced cabinet technology
YG Acoustics™ enclosures are precision CNC-machined from solid aircraft aluminum and pressure assembled using exclusive technology. There is much debate in the audio industry about materials for enclosures. Specifically, which approach is “vibration free”, “well damped” or in less scientific terms, “more musical”.

FocusedElimination Cabinet Technology
Speaker drivers must “fight” friction that prevents their accurate and timely movement. The quality of a loudspeaker is measured, among other things, by how “lossy” it is, i.e. how much friction exists in the system. A loudspeaker with a high-loss driver suffers from a boxy, slow sound. Low loss, on the other hand, is indicative of fast response time, freedom from boxiness, and tight, punchy bass. To measure the losses, the driver is examined from both outside and inside its enclosure. The lower its peak impedance when covered, the more “lossy” the enclosure. The higher the peak impedance remains, the lower the loss (better). FocusedElimination™ from YG Acoustics™ eliminates standing waves at their source through anti-resonance technology applied to precise locations inside the enclosure. Following is proof that cabinets using FocusedElimination™ technology offer significantly lower losses than cabinets fully filled with damping material.

ToroAir™ Inductors
In loudspeaker design, there is usually a conflict between preserving high-frequency detail and avoiding harsh, clear, analytical sound. This conflict would not exist if crossover circuits pursued a theoretical ideal. The reason for the conflict is that loudspeaker turnouts typically suffer from cross-contamination: the fine tweeter’s dampers trap unwanted electromagnetic energy from the low-frequency circuit.

As a result, the tweeter loses high-frequency detail because much of its dynamic range is wasted on low-frequency leakage. Music typically contains much more bass and midrange energy than treble, which amplifies this problem. YG Acoustics™ ToroAir™ inductors are unique in eliminating crosstalk through the use of toroidal geometry. They have the added advantage of being completely distortion-free because they use a non-magnetic core (aka air core). Competing designs are forced to choose between two clearly flawed design options – either leave the tweeter level at the correct (neutral) setting and lose high-frequency detail, or artificially “raise” the tweeter and suffer from harshness and brightness.

ForgeCore Motor Systems
The tweeter’s magnet system is a critical part of the design, as it usually serves as both its motor and its enclosure. The new ForgeCore™ magnetic system from YG Acoustics™ is unique in optimizing both functions (motor and enclosure), dramatically reducing distortion in tweeters. ForgeCore™ does this by introducing computer optimized, highly sophisticated 3D geometries into the magnetic system by CNC cutting the motor parts. In comparison, standard tweeters use molded or laser-cut motors that are limited to mostly 2D elements. The process is extremely precise and the resulting improvement is immediately audible as a sense of lightness in the sound. It’s especially noticeable in how relaxing long-term listening becomes thanks to the ForgeCore™.

How is ForgeCore™ different from BilletCore™?

  • The two technologies work together inside YG Acoustics™ speakers, but are optimized for different frequency ranges: ForgeCore™ reduces distortion in the tweeters, BilletCore™ reduces distortion in the woofers and midrange.
  • Both technologies use CNC cutting, but on different parts: ForgeCore™ is a magnet system (motor) technology, BilletCore™ is a diaphragm (cone) technology.
  • Technically (for gearboxes only) ForgeCore™ uses CNC cut steel forgings with some non-machinable features, while BilletCore™ uses CNC machined solid aircraft aluminum blanks.
