Siltech

Siltech has been manufacturing uncompromising cables since 1983. At the time, few knew that hi-fi systems sounded as good as the cables that connected them. Since then, research at Siltech has led to the development of some of the best speaker and power cables money can buy. To achieve this level, silver was chosen as the base material due to its excellent signal transmission properties.

General about the brand

Siltech’s cutting-edge metallurgical processes and innovative construction techniques are the foundation of the exceptional sound of Siltech cables, which are ready for state-of-the-art amplifiers and loudspeakers. What makes Siltech exceptional is the investment in research and development. Instead of a subjective, hit-and-miss approach, Siltech’s method of cable creation is based on science, engineering and measurement – then comes the rigorous listening tests. The result is incredible performance at an adequate price, and your beloved music sounds like you’ve never heard it before.

Siltech Audio Cable Metallurgy

Siltech has long been at the forefront of audio cable metallurgy and is continually refining its technology in this sphere.

Silver technology
Siltech stands for Silver Technology. Silver is naturally more conductive than copper, but is more expensive and therefore less used in audiophile applications. All of the higher Siltech series use silver conductors, but not all types are the same. Most audio cables use copper or silver plated copper conductors because the material is readily and affordably available. Siltech’s premium products, however, use pure silver as the conductive elements. Silver wire offers higher conductivity and lower resistance than any other material – even gold. But that alone is not enough to guarantee superior musical results. It’s not just a matter of what you use. How you use it is also important.

Silver and gold alloy
The driver, one of the most important parts of a cable, has a number of important properties that affect sound quality. By analyzing the magnetic and electrical properties of the crystal barrier, Siltech’s engineering group has found that contaminants of certain metals have a profound effect on musical performance. Relatively large amounts of certain materials can be rather harmless, while even small amounts of others can be extremely distracting and detrimental to natural sound.

Monocrystalline silver
Siltech believes that S8 Monocrystal Silver cables are the best audio cables ever developed. They do not mean this lightly, as they are the product of many decades of intensive research and development. It delivers musical performance that is second to none.

The Siltech Audio Cable Directory

Beautiful isolation
It is a well-known fact that the insulation used to wrap the wires in audio cables has a great impact on the audio performance. Charge effects and dielectric absorption slow and compress signals, robbing the resulting music of life and dynamics.

PTFE or “Teflon” has become a staple dielectric for high-end audio cables, but the results depend on how it is used and how much is actually used. After all, it has both a mechanical and electrical effect. That’s why Siltech uses innovative construction and complementary materials to carefully manage its sonic signature.

Kapton®
PTFE offers extremely low dielectric absorption, but still has a measurable effect on audio cable performance. The relatively soft insulating layer, in addition to electrically dampening the signal, also dampens the conductor mechanically, which is also audible.

To avoid such signal degradation, Siltech uses a different but more electrically efficient material called DuPont™ Kapton® polyimide film. This is more commonly found in the voice coil formers of high-end loudspeaker units. It is chosen for this application because of its extreme stiffness and very low electrical absorption – both of which help maintain the dynamic efficiency of the driver.

Shielding

Safe from damage
Many cable manufacturers only use shielding in their interconnects, but at Siltech, every cable in the range uses high-efficiency shielding to reduce electrical and mechanical noise. This ensures that high-quality conductors can do their job properly, resulting in surprisingly low noise that allows the music to radiate its full majesty and power.

The importance of shielding
Not all shielding is the same – as Siltech’s research on the subject shows. Many audio cables are shielded, but their effectiveness is another matter entirely.

Audio interconnects need isolation from electrical noise, electromagnetic interference and mechanical vibration. Only then can their low-level electrical signals get where they’re going without damage.

The increased use of digital systems, wireless connectivity and control circuits in modern homes has greatly increased the level of electrical noise pollution or radio frequency interference (RFI).

Effective shielding of signal carrying cables is essential for proper system performance, otherwise they will act as antennas and transmit noise into your system.

Siltech’s differentiation from others
Although Siltech cables are generally larger in diameter than others, this is not done for visual effect. Instead, they use thick and heavy outer sleeves to maximize the distance between shields and conductors.

The difference is easily visible, but more importantly, clearly audible. It produces a cleaner, lower distortion sound with lots of subtle musical detail that would otherwise be lost by substandard shielding design, materials and construction.

Topology

Siltech cables combine sets of twisted conductors with complex shielding to provide superior electrical and mechanical properties. This in turn provides consistently high performance in a wide range of hi-fi systems. Siltech’s design team has concentrated on optimising the diameter of the individual conductors along with the twist rate to achieve the best possible sound.

Size matters
The specific diameter of each conductor has a significant impact on the technical and musical performance of the cable, with direct implications for both resistance and impedance. With advanced silver conductors, even a small increase in diameter has a significant effect on the amount and cost of material used.

In any cable design, balancing performance and cost is a key part of the process, but as a rule, use conductors with as large a cross section as possible. This is one of the main contributors to the large overall diameter of Siltech cables.

Another aspect of cable topology that is often overlooked is not just the spacing or lateral distribution of the conductors, but also their longitudinal relationship. The exact spacing and arrangement of conductors is critical to the electrical performance of any cable. The accuracy and consistency of this geometry along the length of the cable is also paramount.

Siltech Audio Cable Connectors

Plugs and other connectors used to terminate audio cables are a critical factor when it comes to performance. Siltech has spent many years researching the quality of connectors, and one thing has become very clear. Poor connector selection can ruin the performance of even the highest quality cables.

Siltech works with carefully selected suppliers, focusing on materials, mechanical integrity and contact quality. Every aspect of every plug or spade they use is designed and assessed for these parameters, ensuring that the cable terminations provide the best possible connection between the cable and the equipment.
